In the mid 1800s, Bangalore was a leafy army base. Today it is home to many of the world's IT companies, and is popularly known as the epicentre of India's Silicon Valley. Officially named Bengaluru, Bangalore is the 5th metropolitan city in the country and is graced by a heady blend of history and technology. Bangalore's rich cultural heritage combined with its modern achievements has made it one of India's most happening cities. The welcoming climate, natural beauty, and architecture and technological developments contribute to making the city one of the top 10 preferred entrepreneurial locations in the world.
Great International Developer Summit (GIDS) will be held at the hallmark of India's academic excellence, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Located in the northern segment of Bangalore atop a hillock and within an idyllic, sylvan setting, IISc provides the perfect setting for GIDS.

If you're not an Indian resident, we recommend that you check with your local government for information on required documents and arrangements you'll need for travel to India.
Passengers are advised to check in for their flights early. Most airlines start operating their check-in counters at least 3 hours before, and stop check-in 1 hour before flight departure. Before proceeding to the check-in counters, make sure you have your valid passport, valid visa (if necessary) and air ticket ready. If you have an e-ticket, bring along a print-out.
All checked baggage will be screened by airport security. Passengers should not pack any weapons, combustible items, and explosive materials, toxic or other dangerous substances in to their check-in baggage. Passengers may be required to have their checked baggage undergo further security screening if deemed necessary.
All passengers should check that they are issued with the correct boarding passes and that their travel documents are in order before leaving the check-in counter.
IISc is about 35kms from the airport. You can take a prepaid taxi (the counter is available near the exit of the airport building).
IISc is just past Mekhri circle and on the way to Yeshwantpura (take a right turn at Mekhri circle). A shuttle bus service, operated by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), runs from the airport to various areas in Bangalore city every 15 minutes.
The city railway station is 7 kms from the IISc campus. You will have to get out of the station from platform number one and reach the prepaid taxi stand and hire a city taxi. Alternatively, you can hire a taxi using an online service such as Uber.
The Yeshwantpura railway station is located at less than 2 km from the IISc. You can take a 'pre-paid' auto from the counter located outside the exit gate of platform number 6. The prepaid autos is the best deal given the options available. The landmark is CNR Rao Circle from where you take the entry to IISc. Though the prepaid contract says IISc (popularly known as the 'Tata institute') gate as the destination, you can request them to drop you at the J.N Tata auditorium.
The taxis in Bangalore are convenient and comfortable. If you are alone or going to an unknown destination, you are advised to choose this option, and the rates are comparable to that of an auto. Taxi-calling apps like Uber and Ola are popular choices.
Majestic (7kms from IISc) is the central bus stand in Bangalore, and is located just opposite to the city railway station. If you reach Majestic, Bangalore by bus, get to platform number 22 from where almost all buses come to the IISc.
If you plan to take a bus into town, you will have to move past Malleswaram 18th cross bus stand towards Yeshwantpura in order to reach IISc (popularly known as the 'Tata institute'). There is also a bus stop on the highway between the yellow over bridge and Prof. CNR Rao circle, and another one at Prof. CNR Rao circle (on Sir CV Raman Road ). Finally there is a bus stop at Yeshwantpura tollgate, just off campus near R block. Most buses go to one of these places.
Auto-rickshaws are everywhere at any time of day. They are yellow three wheeled contraptions that use simple two-stroke engines and are a fast way to get around the city. Autos are supposed to charge according to the meter, and you should simply refuse to board one where the meter is faulty or the driver refuses to use it. Saying "meter please" will usually help. You can also avail the services of prepaid counters to hire one. Prepaid counters are located in many parts of the city - MG Road, Majestic etc.
